REHAB FOR PERSON'S LIVING WITH DEMENTIA: A CLINICAL FOCUS
Overview
The number of people living with dementia continues to increase and clinicians across all rehab settings must become educated and learn to create innovative treatment plans to allow for successful outcomes. This course focuses on understanding how to effectively treat residents living with dementia. It reviews common rehab referrals across various rehab settings, discusses effective treatment approaches and innovative interventions to successfully treat this patient population. This course is designed for PTs, PTAs, OTs, COTAs and SLPs who want to improve their understanding of dementia and their ability to effectively implement treatment plans for residents living with dementia.
Course Objectives

Define dementia and identify known symptoms of dementia

Identify common side effects of medications used to treat dementia

Identify pseudo-dementias and their importance to achieving an accurate diagnosis

Discuss common rehab referrals for persons living with dementia

Explain treatment interventions for common referral diagnosis

Select effective treatment approaches for patients living with dementia

Demonstrate understanding of Allen Cognitive Levels by appropriately identifying characteristics of each level.

Select appropriate and measurable goals for common rehab referrals.

Critique case studies and discuss clinical interventions and clinical decisions

Appropriately select outcome assessment for identified rehab referral
Audience
This course is for all educational levels of occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech language pathologists, certified occupational therapy assistants and physical therapy assistants currently providing skilled services for the geriatric and memory care population.
Instructional Methods
This course will be taught as a hybrid course which will include live in person trainings and a live webinar training. Course completion will require active participation, seminar survey completion and a passing score of at least 80% on the course test.
Cancellation Policies
Should a participant need to cancel for any reason at all there will be a $50 cancellation fee and all other course fees will be reimbursed. Full reimbursement will be given should the course need to be cancelled by the instructor or sponsor company.
Contact Hours/CEUs
This course will be six contact hours (.6 CEUs). Each participant will receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of all course requirements listed below. This course is approved by the AOTA: course approval number is 0000000326.
